7 days a week, year round. Times may vary due to tides, weather and surf conditions.
What's Included
All of our lessons are 1.5 hours in duration, and in summer include an additional free hour of surfboard rental! Choose from a group surf lesson (4 or 5 people), semi-private lesson (2 or 3 people), or one-on-one private lesson. All lessons include a half hour dry land session and 1 hour of surf instruction in the water.
Also included are new high tech soft-top surfboards, wetsuits, rash guards, leashes and surf hats.
Surf Mission Beach
Situated between the Pacific Ocean and beautiful Mission Bay, Mission Beach is a famous 2 mile stretch of white sandy beaches with a wonderful boardwalk along the beach and famous Mission Bay. Whether you're a beginner looking to pop-up for the first time, or an intermediate rider looking to hone your skills, we can help you achieve your goals.
Our Instructors
Our team of surf instructors will work with you individually on your surfing technique to ensure that you learn to surf the right way, without creating “bad habits”. We start you off on the sand and get all your techniques coordinated, and once you have all that under control, we hit the water! Our instructor will be with you ALL the time so you can feel safe and assured. We guarantee your success!
What You'll Learn
Our group of international and local instructors will give you that special attention you need in your surf lesson. We will teach you the fundamentals of surfing, or teach you at your skill level. You'll learn the basics of board handling, positioning, paddling, all the techniques of how to get through those waves, various standing up techniques – we have one specially designed for you, surfing etiquette, ocean knowledge and water safety.

Frequently Asked Questions
Where do we meet for the surf lessons?
For the lessons, we meet on the west side in front of Ostend Ct., on the beach at Mission Beach.
How early should I arrive?
Parking, especially on the weekends, can be a challenge. Allow yourself at least 30 minutes before class to ensure a parking spot, put on your wetsuit and sign our waiver.
What should I bring?
Please wear your swimsuit or trunks beneath your clothing, and put on your sunscreen at least 30 minutes prior to your lesson. Bring a towel, sunglasses, hat, change of clothing, and a bottle of water or drinks.
What do I do if I wear contacts?
If you wear disposable ones, you're okay. Otherwise you can wear an old pair and close your eyes tightly when underwater. You may also want to use swim goggles.
What is the water temperature like?
During the summer months, the water temperature ranges between 65 - 69 degrees.
Do we get to use wetsuits?
We have a broad selection of spring suits at your disposal, but if you have your own wetsuit, you are welcome to use it. We also provide you with brightly colored rash guards if you prefer not to wear a suit.
How experienced are the instructors?
All of our instructors are experienced surfers and soul surfers for over 10 years. Some are even pros! They are all certified in CPR and First Aid, and some are also ocean lifeguards.
Do we get to use the wetsuits and equipment after the lesson?
All private, semi-private and group lessons allow you to use your surfboards and wetsuits after your lesson free of charge for one hour.
Do you rent surfboards after our lessons are over?
You are welcome to rent surfboards after your lesson if we have the equipment available.
Are there restrooms or changing rooms nearby?
Our customers can use the restrooms at Sticky Buns and also our shop at 735 Santa Clara Place, or at the Santa Clara Recreation Center on the bay.
How good of a swimmer do I have to be?
You need to be able to swim with your head above water, and must be able to swim to shore. Smaller children and inexperienced swimmers will be kept at shallow waters, and our instructors are always with the students at all times.
