NEW Elephant Odyssey Exhibit!
A $45 million project, four years in the making, and it's finally here! There are 12 exhibits with 33 living animal species such as Jaguars, California Condors, Insects, Reptiles, and of course, Elephants! At more than three times the size of the Zoo's former elephant exhibit, these 2.4 acres are home to our six Asian elephants and one African elephant.

This 7.5 acre display includes a 137,000-gallon pool for the elephants and a state-of-the-art Elephant Care Center where you can watch elephants get manicures, physical exams, training, feeding and enrichment. You will marvel at our Madagascar plant garden and discover the mystery of relic plants.

Children of all ages will love our fossil dig-pit and play area. There are also excellent photo opportunities with life-sized statues, such as the Colombian mammoth and saber-toothed cat.

Children's Zoo - It's Not Just for Kids!
Don’t let the name fool you - our Children's Zoo is for everyone to enjoy! There are more than 30 special animal exhibits and activities designed with our younger visitors in mind.

The Children’s Zoo has animals not found anywhere else on Zoo grounds, such as spider monkeys and our ever-fascinating naked mole-rats. Best of all, about 45 of the 200 critters living here are trained as animal ambassadors, so you might get to feel how sharp a hedgehog’s quills are, or hear how quietly a horned owl can flap its wings.

Don't miss our wacky resident scientist, Dr. Zoolittle, who delights audiences with zany science shows, or The Petting Paddock which is always popular with kids. Dr. Zoolittle hosts interactive shows on weekends, holidays, and during the summer. Admission to the Children's Zoo is now included in your San Diego Zoo admission!

Monkey Trails® and Forest Tales
Prepare yourself for an entirely new way of experiencing the San Diego Zoo! The most elaborate and ambitious animal habitat in our history is now open. This naturalistic dwelling is home to more than 30 species of African and Asian birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and some of the world's most exotic and endangered wildlife.

An elevated walkway located across from the Zoo entrance takes you directly through the tree canopy, where you will encounter some of the most rare and endangered monkeys on Earth. Or you can enter along the Asian forest path that begins across from Absolutely Apes, where you will come across different kinds of exotic pigs, including the most endangered pigs in the world. Be sure to look for the secretive and mysterious clouded leopard which is rarely seen in zoos!

Polar Bear Plunge®
At first thought, a polar bear in sunny California seems curiously out of place, but this exhibit brings the Arctic tundra south to San Diego. From the underwater viewing room you can see how agile and playful the polar bears really are. In fact, they're known to swim right up to the glass to check out all the humans on display.

Outdoor viewing follows the water level up to the beach area, where a herd of reindeer can also be viewed in the background. A large sandbox and open spaces on the banks of the Plunge also allow the bears to dig around or maybe take a nap - just like they would in the wild.

One of the most popular animals in Polar Bear Plunge are the diving ducks, which can be found in front of the aviary. Polar Bear Plunge is one of the largest polar bear exhibits in the world. It's wet and it's wild - polar bear style!

Tiger River®
Enjoy your jungle trek either from Monkey Trails or Ituri Forest to Tiger River. You will stroll along a riverbed pathway that leads to a tiger's lair, a crocodilian pool, a fishing cat's den, and a marsh complete with cattails, fallen trees, and wafting mists. Enjoy the cooling shade from towering palms, coral and orchid trees, ferns, figs, bamboos, and gingers.

Mesmerizing and gorgeous, but also endangered, our tigers are always exciting to watch. Tiger River is the San Diego Zoo's rainforest bioclime, designed to instill you with a sense of wonder, discovery, and appreciation for the fragility of one of the world's most threatened environments.

Guests with Disabilities
The San Diego Zoo provides special parking, restrooms, telephones (including TDD at the Security Office), and access to shows, tour buses, and exhibits for guests with disabilities. There are ASL "signed" bus tours available for the hearing impaired; please call in advance to arrange for an interpreter.
 
Please note that there are steep grades in parts of the Zoo, and assistance is recommended for those with limited mobility. A free shuttle bus operates inside the Zoo for those with limited mobility.

Rentals
Strollers, lockers, and motorized wheelchairs are available for rent on a first-come, first-served basis near the entrance.

Prices
Strollers $9; double strollers $14; wheelchairs $10; electric scooters $35 (membership number or state identification card number is required).

Lockers
Coin-operated lockers are available to guests on grounds behind the Reptile House, near Wegeforth Bowl.

Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs)
These conveniences are located near the front of the Reptile House, at the Treehouse Trader, and next to the Canyon Café.

Dining Facilities at the Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is committed to providing our guests with top-quality food and attentive service. Our menus offer a variety of choices, from fun snacks and healthy offerings to all-American favorites and tasty treats from around the world. Along with numerous carts and stands throughout the Zoo, guests may dine at one of several fine dining restaurants located throughout the park.

Going Green
The San Diego Zoo uses compostable and biodegradable tableware and cutlery in selected locations. These products are made from sugar cane fiber, natural plant and potato starches, paper and corn resins. Please ask us about them!

Gifts & Souvenirs
The San Diego Zoo's gift shops feature an array of fascinating gifts from around the world: jewelry, African art objects, clothing, books and music. We also have the usual souvenirs, sundries, T-shirts, hats, film, and treats. Merchandise carts are located throughout the Zoo, as well as at featured shops.

Security Office and Lost and Found
Visit our Security Office located at the Zoo's main entrance, if you have lost an item or child. Open daily to closing.

First Aid
A staffed first-aid station is located on the north side of the Zoo's Reptile House. Open daily to closing.
