I have a confession to make — I’m a technology and adventure fiend. These two characteristics have played a defining role in my young adult life. So when I find someone who seems to has these same passions, I get very excited.

Marek runs the blog Paddling with a camera which is basically a study of photography and kayaking. He features great reviews of adventure themed cameras and takes some stunning shots as well.

Here are some of my favorite posts:

Someone who has given the gift of life shouldn’t be honored with a gift that will be quickly forgotten – or worse, returned. The Kijubi Team has the perfect solution – the gift of experience.

Start your Mother’s day off with a fabulous, relaxing and delicious brunch cruise. A chartered brunch cruise gives your mother the option to step out onto the deck and breathe some fresh sea air, or relax comfortably inside the cabin where there is warmth, good music, excellent food and a charming atmosphere.

Have you ever wined and dined by sea? If you have, then you know that its the perfect Mother’s Day gift. It’s time to eat in style, on a one-of-a-kind Dinner Cruise. Let’s face it, taking you mother out to dinner is great and there are lots of award winning restaurants out there, but after five years in a row, it’s time for a change. Where else can you be catered to while the ocean breeze blows across the bow, and the aroma of Lobster & Filet Mignon tantalizes your taste buds.

We have cruises departing throughout California, including Newport Beach, Marina Del Rey, San Diego and San Francisco. So hurry up and book because a Mother’s Day brunch or dinner cruise is surely selling out.

Could there be anything more romantic than gliding gently across the water in a Venetian gondola, snuggled under a blanket, enjoying champagne and snacks, while your gondolier sings Italian love songs? This experience will ensure the most romantic Mother’s Day getaway. Tradition dictates that couples must kiss under every bridge, and a friendly “Ciao” to passersby is encouraged. This is romance at its finest.

What could possibly be better than giving your Mother the gift of a spa treatment? How about enjoying some of that pampering yourself! Whether you are looking for the perfect Mother’s Day gift, or you are dying to relieve some stress, a Mobile Spa Treatment is exactly what you’re looking for. Have a luxury-spa quality facial or hand and foot treatment in the privacy of your own home and share the self-indulgence with your Mother!

If you really want to wow the special Mother in your life, don’t just take her out to an exquisite restaurant – give her an unforgettable dining experience. Enjoy a mesmerizing evening under the stars and over the skyscrapers of Los Angeles and Hollywood with our all-inclusive Dinner Helicopter tour. Indulge in the beautiful Southern California skyline while you savor a beautifully crafted dinner from a choice of award winning Hollywood area restaurants. Enjoy the moon, stars and the picturesque cityscape from an exclusive perspective. This is a pull-out-all-the-stops kind of event and the extraordinary Mother in your life deserves nothing less.

Hello Everybody!

Kijubi had another exciting Friday this week. In order to prepare for our Deal of the Week and to make sure you all are getting the best experience possible during our activities, we decided to test it out ourselves!

Four of the Kijubi team drove up to Redondo Beach today and hooked up with Wes from South Bay sailing, hopped on a J80 sailboat, and set off on a one-hour educational sailing cruise. We learned about all the basic parts of a sail boat, how to steer and adjust the sails, and, most importantly, to watch our heads when the boom swings. There were a few close calls but we all survived without taking an unexpected dip.

I’ve learned that sailing is an amazing activity. Like all fun hobbies and activities, it’s pretty easy to initially pick up and challenging to master. The greatest thing about this kind of cruise is that it can either be an educational adventure or a relaxing cruise. Wes was very kind to answer all sailing questions, and did a great job of instructing and allowed us to learn hands-on.

This is the perfect activity if you’re looking to get away from civilization for a little bit and experience the beautiful open pacific ocean first hand.

In my more youthful days I was proud to call myself a collegiate rower. Rowing is one of the most beautiful and strenuous sports out there. A full body workout that requires year-round dedication to peak physical condition, while at the same time it provides picturesque sunrises reflecting off pristine rivers, lakes, harbors and estuaries. So when this story came across my desk, I had to share with you.

This past Sunday, Katie Spots became the youngest person to cross an ocean solo, and the first American to cross one without any help from the mainland. She completed this feat in 70 days 22 hours and 15 minutes, coming ashore in Georgetown, Guyana, in south America. She left Dakar, Senegal, in a 19ft yellow, custom made, rowboat. A driving factor in her 2,817-mile journey was an opportunity to raise more than $70,000 for the Blue Water run Foundation which supports drinking water throughout the world.

Here’s a map of her completed journey.

If you want to have your own ocean adventure, Kijubi.com is the right place to start.

One thing most Kijubi customers have in common is a love for travel and getting out to see the world. If you’re like us, you probably spend a good amount of time in hotels on your business trips and adventures. Needless to say, we were quite alarmed when we read this Gadling post (one of our favorite travel blogs) discussing how hackers went after hotel networks more than any other any other destination in 2009. Yikes!
This hit home for us, so we did some additional digging from their source at Dark Reading and uncovered data from TrustWave’s Spider Labs highlighting that malicious attacks on hotel networks accounted for 38% of all known security breeches in 2009, more than the financial services industry (19%) and retail industries (14.2) combined.

To make matters worse, the hotels didn’t discover that the breeches had even occurred for an average of 156 days, leaving plenty of time for the cyber-criminals to use stolen credit card information, or take advantage of the personal data harvested for any number of identity theft scams.
Unfortunately, it doesn’t take an expert hacker to tap into a hotel’s network. It’s often quite literally an open door due to the weak firewalls employed by the hotel and poor passwords used by the guests.

So what can be done to keep your data safe when travelling? For starters, choose a hotel that uses Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) encryption, which requires a password to get on the network and encrypts all the data that is being transmitted.

If you’re doing business in your hotel room, make sure you log in through your company’s dedicated VPN and that your laptop has up to date firewalls and anti-virus software installed. Your IT guy will probably be all too happy to check that for you if you’re not technically inclined.

You can bring your own wireless data card so that you don’t have to rely on the hotel’s open WiFi network for connectivity. This can also come in handy in airport terminals and coffee shops, two other prime hunting grounds for would-be hackers.

Lastly, you can use any number of data encryption software solutions available today that serve to lock down the files, photos and videos on your computer. Many of the more advanced encryption solutions now provide the ability to store and encrypt your online passwords so that you’ll be protected when you do have to enter them using a public network.

With the increasing instances of cyber-criminals targeting travelers, it’s crucial that we all understand the potential threats associated with data and identity theft. We know we’ll think twice the next time we get on a hotel network.
