Racing Across the San Diego Bay
Sure, San Diego Bay might be pretty to look at. However, we can offer a much more thrilling way to experience this attraction. Like the ocean? Want to add a little friendly competition to your vacation? Climb aboard and help your team win as the racing yachts Stars and Stripes and Abracadabra face off against each other every day at 11pm. This is the perfect way to have some unique fun... and settle a score!

Once guests arrive, they are given an orientation of the yachts and their history. Then it's time to split into teams of 20 for this intense competition. Once we set sail, you may sit back, relax and enjoy the scenery if you wish. However, we encourage you to jump in and help us sail to victory. That's right, you'll actually have the opportunity to assist in rigging the vessel and bringing her up to full speed. Make sure you a bring a camera, as you'll definitely want to document yourself in control of one of these magnificent yachts. The hands-on opportunity to sail transforms this activity from a simple sightseeing cruise into an unforgettable thrill.

Stars & Stripes / USA 34
Team Dennis Conner's original Stars & Stripes set sail in Australia in 1987 and won the America's Cup in Fremantle, defeating the Aussie's Kookaburra III. Stars & Stripes / USA 34 was designed by David Pedrick and built in 1994 by Goetz Boat Works for Team Dennis Conner's single-boat campaign during the 1995 America's Cup in San Diego.

Stars & Stripes / USA 34 cemented its fame by winning the Citizen Cup in 1995, earning the right to defend the Cup on behalf of the San Diego Yacht Club. Stars & Stripes is arguably the most widely-recognized name among all American sailing vessels.

Abracadabra
Built in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1999, Abracadabra / USA 54 was designed by Australian Ian Burns. The yacht was raced in the 2000 America's Cup in Auckland, New Zealand by John Kolius' Aloha Racing (Waikiki Yacht Club). Abracadabra was the second of two IACC boats entered by Aloha Racing, along with stable mate USA 50.

During the 2000 America's Cup challenge, Abracadabra defeated Team Dennis Conner's USA 55 in preliminary round robin races in 2 out of 3 races. After an unsuccessful run at the 2000 America's Cup, Abracadabra was purchased by software magnate, Larry Ellison, to serve as a training boat for his Oracle Racing team.

How long is The Daily Race sailing cruise?
The entire outing usually takes about 2 1/2 hours.

If my race team aboard one of the yachts is kicking the dung out of my boss' team on the other yacht, would your crew help us throw the race so we don't get canned?
Sorry, once the game is on, our guys sail to win. Bring your hunger for victory!

Is sailing in the Bay likely to make me seasick?
The boats are big and stable, so the ride is generally very smooth. If you sail with us in the San Diego Bay and seasickness spoils your experience, we will invite you back to sail with us free of charge on another day, OR we will issue you a $40 Gift Certificate for lunch at the famous San Diego “Fish Market” restaurant. That is how confident we are that you will not get seasick!

Do passengers really get the chance to steer the yachts or grind the winches?
Call us crazy, but yes, it's true.

What if I fall overboard?
You'll definitely get wet. It may take us a few minutes to turn the yacht around and come get you. Do your best to stay on the boat.

What is your policy on smoking aboard your boats?
Our fire extinguisher is mightier than any cigarette or cigar, and our crew members are not afraid to use it to enforce our NO SMOKING policy.

What are the seating arrangements on the boat? Chaise lounges, hammocks or what?
This is not a Princess Cruise, it's high-performance sailing. Simply find a dry spot around the perimeter of the deck, hold on and watch out for the boom.

Do I have to stay in the same place for the duration of the ride or can I get up and move around?
You may move around as you please.

Is there a restroom on the boat?
The restroom facility on-board is very basic. We recommend that all passengers use the dockside restrooms prior to boarding.

Are life jackets provided on the boat?
The Coast Guard requires us to keep life jackets on-board and are available if you like. They are not mandatory, however.

Are snacks and beverages available on the boat?
We provide complimentary bottled water and soft drinks. You are also welcome to bring your own beverages, snacks and lunches.

What sights and points of interest can I expect to see on the boat ride?
Point Loma lighthouse, the downtown skyline, The Star of India, sea lions on the marker buoys, Coronado Bridge, other beautiful boats, stuff like that...

Can I bring my fishing pole and troll as we go?
No. But if you insist on trolling, you can hold onto one of the stern lines and we can try to attract some local sharks.

Where is the crow's nest and how do I get up there?
It's eleven stories up the mast and there is no elevator.

What about pirates?
Arrr... Bring 'em on. We're not afraid of any stinking pirates.
